How much does cost to build a website?  This is one of the frequent questions business owners asked when thinking of designing website for their. But unfortunately, there is no price tag for designing/ development a website, rather the cost of building a website is based on the purpose and functionality of the website. We normally respond to this question by giving a price range, let’s from N100, 000 to N500,000.

There are few factors that determine the cost of building a website. For the sake of this post, let’s look at just two:

  • Project scope (number of pages, functionality, complexity, etc.)
  • Type of website (startup website, corporate website, or e-commerce website)

To determine the cost of designing a website for our clients, we usually ask questions like: Who are your target customers? Who are your competitors? What’s your budget towards this project? What Impact do you want the website to have to your business? And so on.

Also, the cost of building a website can vary based on business demography and market value. The cost designing a website in Nigeria will be different from US. The cost of developing a website can also be determined based on who is handling the project. Are you hiring a freelancer, a junior developer, a senior developer, a designer & developer combined or a web design agency? An agency is likely to charge higher than a freelancer. But price is not always the issue, but building a website that add value to your business and satisfies customers’ needs.

Note:  A great website is not built at once, is a continuous process; there always need for improvement. So we advise business owners and CEOs to start with few pages or products and improve on the long run. Oftentimes, client does say something like: I want a website to look exactly like Website A or Website B, while website A & B has existed for over 5 year. It doesn’t work like that. Just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, same goes to website design. You need to have all the pages or products at once, but you just have to start as soon as possible.

To crown it all, the cost of building a website can be determine by the following:

  • Domain name extension (.com, ,net, .org, .ltd, .xyx)
  • Hosting package (Windows, Linux, etc)
  • Theme Design & Customization
  • Development Fee
  • Ongoing Maintenance & update

Also, when thinking of building a website for your brand or business, the following point should be considered

  • Do you want a custom website (code from scratch)? – Only experienced programmers can design and manage this type of website.
  • Do you want to use a Content Management System or online website builder? – These type of website are easy to edit and manage ( WordPressSqureSpace  and Wiz).
